Minutes
The minutes from the July meeting were approved for both the web page and for headquarters/archives.
Action: Peter will let Ginnie know that the minutes can go on the web page and he'll send the hard copy to headquarters.
Membership
[Beata reporting]
Beata gave us the membership figures for June-August:
4 new.
14 dropped.
33 renewed
1 transfer in
Margret Lippert and Vanessa have agreed to help Beata with membership retention and recruitment. Margret has a list of Simmons GSLIS graduates and is working on a solicitation letter encouraging them to join NEASIS. This kind of recruitment effort should really boost membership.
Beata has produced and mailed the directories. She had 300 directories produced and mailed 220. In addition to sending them to members, directories were mailed to headquarters, Ruth Fenske our chapter advisor, and to the chapter assembly.
The directory cost approximately $1200 to produce and mail. We sold about $1200 worth of ad space so the directory actually broke even!
Program Committee

The program committee met on Oct. 20. They are going to do a program on XML but it won't take place in November as was originally planned. So far they've gotten MacKenzie Smith who will speak about XML and metadata at Harvard. They are still working on locating a vendor and someone else who is writing on XML. This program will be an introduction to XML. The Program Committee is considering doing an advanced hands-on XML program later in the year.
There are a couple of new Program Committee members and Pat is talking with MIT librarians to try and recruit some more.
Other Business:
Pat and Leslie need to write articles for the newsletter as outgoing and incoming chairs.
Action: Pat and Leslie will write their articles and get them to Michael by November 15.
ASIS Conference in Pittsburgh:
Beata and Pat reported that it was a good conference. Beata got the Chapter Member of the Year Award. (Congratulations to Beata!) And we tied with the Los Angeles chapter for Chapter of the Year!
