NEASIST Board Minutes, September 19, 2001

Present: Nicole Hennig (Chair), Jonah Jenkins, Jessica Thomas (incoming secretary), Pat Flanagan (minutes), Vince Kimball

I. Minutes from the August meeting were approved with slight changes.

Action Item:
-Jessica will email Paul Aloiso to ask about newsletter scanning

II. Reports:

Membership

Beata out, but indicated to Nicole before the meeting that there is nothing new to report.

Program Committee - Jonah

Audio Workshop: This was a success, with full attendance. The Program Committee hopes to organize a third session for early winter.

Virtual Program: The finished video of Howard Besser has been received. Jonah will be meeting with staff at CAES at MIT about next steps.

Information Architecture Program: The timing of this program is in question. Speakers are either unavailable or asking for honorariums higher than we can pay. Only one speaker has been confirmed. Suggested and accepted strategy: push back date of IA program to spring in hopes of speakers having freer schedules. In December hold a program on digital copyright issues instead. Jonah will bring this idea to the Program Committee, but the board is behind it if they decide to move forward.

Vince distributed a graph of the levels of the NEASIST account balances back to December of 1998, along with a grid of data.

Student Chapter
No report, but we have word that a new student chapter representative has been selected. She is Maggie Byer. Nicole has asked everyone to update email lists for the board including Margaret's email address (sent via email).

III. Other Business

Election results are due by Friday the 21st. Beata will be sending notice of the results.

-Beata will ask Margret and Louisa if they are still interested in membership.
-Board members will keep an eye out for speaker ideas and pass along to Jonah.
-Jonah will contact Vijay Kumar about submitting the films to the Research Channel.
-Beata will handle the mailing to invite upstate NY and eastern Canada members to join NEASIS
-Louisa/Beata will contact non-NEASIS members from the Wireless program about membership
