NEASIS&T Board Minutes, May 12, 2004

  1. Reports:
  • Program Committee Chair: Instead of a Spring awards dinner we are going to have an awards picnic in early July. We are starting to work on a fall program.
  • Membership Chair: Joanne Ren is helping Margaret.
  • Treasurer (Vince sent in an email update):
    • The current chapter checking account balance is $2,849.80 and we have a CD with a balance $3,492.42 as of 11/1/2003.
    • We received $279.90 which is the chapter rebate from ASIST HQ.
    • Our last few months' expenses have been:
      • Michael J.D. Sutton $1000.00 for the student travel award
      • Stephen Cohen $687.77 for blogging workshop expenses
      • Gordon's Fine Wines $103.12 for DASER expenses
      • Darcy Duke $338.90 for DASER expenses
      • Rebecca's Cafe $582.75 for DASER expenses

    2. Annual awards

    • We have our three award recipients:
      • The student travel award winner is Asim Qayyum (doctoral student at the University of Toronto) for his paper "Analysing markings made on e-documents."
      • The student award of the year is going to Beatrice Pulliam.
      • The board selected a member of the year (to be named at the awards picnic).
    • Darcy will arrange to have the framed certificates made.

    3. Filling positions on board

    Darcy will compose an email to be sent out to NEASIS-L to try and recruit members for the open positions on the board (secretary, archivist) and also new members for the program committee. We also need to find a new program chair which will be challenging since all obvious candidates are not able to accept the position this year. Margret expressed interest in taking over the Secretary position if someone else wanted to do membership.

    4. Meeting schedule

    We will go back to meeting once a month from 5-6pm at MIT on the following dates (generally, the 3rd Wednesday or each month):
    • June 16
    • July 21
    • August 18
    • September 15
    • October 20
    • November 17
    • December 15

    Darcy will send out TechTime proposals to the MIT people.
