This hands-on
workshop will cover:
- introduction
to digital audio: analog/digital conversion, sampling rates and resolution,
storage formats and media
- recording
sound files to digital storage media: hands-on practice with recording
and editing
- web
hosting of sound files
- archiving
and backup

Instructor:
Alec McLane
Alec
McLane grew up in New England and was educated at the Berklee College
of Music (B.Mus. '78) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
(M.Mus. '82, DMA. '92, MSLIS '95). He has taught music at the University
of Illinois, Central Connecticut State University, and Youngstown
State University, and is currently Music Librarian and Director of
the World Music Archives at Wesleyan University. In 1996 he contributed
a chapter to the Annual Review of Information Science and Technology
with the title, "Music as Information" (ARIST, 31, 1996).
