Bringing Innovative Web Technologies to Library Settings

Redefining Publications and Writing with Manila
Robert Bierman, Userland

Abstract:
For the first time individuals can be free to express their ideas, concerns, hopes, fears, or just random information to a large audience with requiring any knowledge beyond using a web browser. Instead of have a few select people writing stories for a publication, it is now possible to have hundreds and thousands of writers for a publication.

Manila removes the obstacles from web publishing while maintaining a high level content management system. A site can be updated from any web browser without knowledge of where or how the content is actually stored. The design of a site is separate from it's content allowing the designer to focus on the design and the writers to focus on the content. A managing editor controls the overall site and can make a discussion group public or private, can add, edit and delete messages and stories and control the overall appearance of the site.

Manila opens an entire world to the individual to be their own webmaster.
