Abstract:
Despite the rapid growth and evolution of the Internet, searching and
finding relevant information on the Web remains a frustrating and laborious
task. Abuzz, the creator of the Web's first dynamic knowledge network
and the cornerstone of New York Times Digital, the Internet division
of The New York Times Company, has developed a technology that ushers
in a new paradigm of searching for and finding people to people knowledge.
Jessica Brooks, Director
of Communities & Affiliates at Abuzz, will demonstrate how Web-based
tools like Abuzz can serve as an invaluable information resource while
providing a radical new forum for intelligent and informative exchanges
with people who share common interests.
Historically, the Web
has connected people to static documents or links that may or may not
contain the information needed. Abuzz is changing this approach by providing
a shared space where users can ask questions, get answers, publish bulletins
and share knowledge and experience with one another. Unlike online Q&A
services, or search engines, Abuzz is a knowledge network that enables
users to locate, connect and interact with like-minded individuals.
Using the most sophisticated navigational and profiling technology available
on the Web today, Abuzz is the most collaborative, effective way for
people to share knowledge, other than through live conversation.
Through its association
with The New York Times Company, Abuzz is the only Web destination that
leverages the award-winning content of the various New York Times properties.
The combination of superior content and the exceptional audience that
has been growing daily since the January launch has made Abuzz an excellent
resource for information and interaction.
